30 Republicans Vote Against Rape Bill

Senator Franken sponsors a bill to stop companies from writing clauses into their employment contracts that make prospective employees agree not to sue if they are raped on the job.  And by “companies,” I include government contracts, which are currently in force.  The amendment was proposed after a Haliburton woman was gang-raped and was unable to sue because her contract called for mediation, which heavily favors corporations.  I know this to be a fact because I see mediations vs. lawsuits in my work.  The amendment was passed 63-30, and all 30 dissenters were Republicans.  How can their wives or daughters let them in the door at night?

All these employee contracts that every prospective employee must sign need to be legislated against.  The employee no longer has any rights.  It’s very telling that Texas is one of the only “no fault” states in the union, meaning employers don’t even need a justification to terminate employment.
